This month with Boyd’s Blinds we will be looking at the best type of blinds for use within a conservatory. As a conservatory is a cherished room we use for socialising, dining and relaxing, it’s important that it lives up to its utmost potential, by implementing the right blinds for you.
The sun is no stranger during the summer months due to the high percentage of glass in a conservatory, and because of this you can find yourself overheating and squinting. Although natural light lifts your mood and makes the conservatory look inviting – sometimes it needs to be tamed. Blinds are there to block or angle the light, not just on a sunny day but also on a wet day. Rainy days can be just as relaxing, tilt your blinds for privacy but enough so you can see the droplets land on the glass, whilst listening out for the pitter patter of the rain.
Although many would avoid aluminium Venetian blinds, they are in fact suitable for a conservatory – better suited than wooden Venetian blinds. Unfortunately for wooden blinds, they are easily bleached and warped when exposed to excessive amounts of sun (like in a conservatory). Venetian blinds are a great way to create the illusion that your windows are wider than they really are. This being said, if your windows are excessively large, they can look cumbersome when fully retracted. Venetian blinds are really easy to clean, all you have to do is tilt them up and down and wipe a duster between the slats.
These drop down vertical blinds are ideal for covering conservatory doors, they’re easy to use with simple manoeuvering either by parting them in the middle or from one side to the other. They cover floor-to-ceiling and the design allows you to tilt and completely cover the windows, depending on how much privacy you wish to have. Surprisingly, these blinds are light on the mechanism and can be a delight for your walls.
They can be a wonderful addition to your conservatory but are limited when it comes to lighting as they can only be moved up and down – and of course, part way if you wish. Although their unique style doesn’t possess gaps for dispersed sunlight, they look just as nice down as they do up. Pleated blinds come in a range of stylish colours that could be an interesting finishing to the room.
Roller blinds are nice and simple, providing a clean and elegant look to your conservatory. They move up and down and can be found in multiple colours, styles and patterns. Ideal for smaller windows as the material when rolled up can be heavy on the mechanism, if used to cover full length french doors.
You may also wish to consider child safety with potential cordless blinds, not only do they look neat but they are ideal for households with young children and pets too.
