Bay windows are a highly sought-after feature in modern houses thanks to their interesting shape, which easily makes them stand out as the focal point of any room. However, the benefits go beyond aesthetics: their protruding shape means that more light is able to enter the room, and you will be able to get a panoramic view of your garden, too.
Unfortunately, due to their size, and often the angle of the bay, finding the correct dressing for bay windows can be difficult. So, to help you with this, in this article, Boyd’s Blind will assess your options.
Firstly, before you decide which window dressing you are going to use, it’s important to make sure that your chosen supplier offers a made to measure service. As bay windows vary in size from home to home, fitting them can be awkward – and you certainly don’t want to end up with blinds that don’t line up correctly! Ensuring that you choose a reputable supplier, such as us here at Boyd’s Blinds, will save you a great deal of trouble down the line.
If you would like to opt for blinds, then you have a variety of options:
Roman blinds are a gorgeous solution, and fit the upmarket aesthetic of bay windows. Like roller blinds, they will be relatively simple to fit at each window, and will look especially good when they’ve been retracted into simple pleats.
Roller blinds will function in the same manner as Roman blinds when it comes to your bay windows, however, the aesthetic errs more on the side of minimalism. Also, given that bay windows tend to display more of your home, roller blinds offer excellent privacy.
Vertical blinds are great as they will flow seamlessly around the bay area. However, you will still have to have a set installed at each window.
Bay windows are perfect for shutters, especially if they’re installed on ground floor windows. They have slats that can be tilted to allow in the optimal amount of light to suit your needs, and they also offer great insulation and noise reduction, something which can be a an issue with a typical bay window.
When it comes to installing curtains onto your bay windows, you have two options: 1) you can have the curtains installed flush with the window sill out of the bay, or 2) have them installed inside the bay. While having the curtains outside of the bay means that you will get full privacy once the curtains are drawn, it also means that you won’t be able to see the beautiful shape of the bay. With this in mind, you will have to decide which feature feel is more important!
